Oscilla Power receives a grant to help develop the drivetrain for the 1 MW Triton wave energy converter (WEC).
Oscilla Power is pleased to announce that it has been selected for a $750k grant from the Washington State department of Commerce. This new funding will help Oscilla Power continue the development of the novel drivetrain technology, which will help to capture more energy from ocean waves and to convert the energy captured from waves to electricity more efficiently. “We would like to thank Washington Department of Commerce for this important and timely funding that will help us meet our mission goals.”, said Balky Nair, CEO of Oscilla Power.
Ocean energy can be a key complement to solar and wind on the US west coast. Oscilla Power is currently working on a US Department of Energy funded project to complete the detailed design of a utility-scale 1MW-rated Triton wave energy converter, specifically designed for deployment at the PacWave site on the Oregon coast. The additional testing planned through this new project will help to supplement the work through additional testing and optimization of a sub-scale drivetrain. Tim Mundon, Chief Technology Officer of Oscilla Power said: “This work is critical to reducing risk and improving performance of our class leading technology.”

The oceans cover over 70% of our planet, making them an immense, untapped source of renewable energy. Ocean waves carry immense power, and for companies dreaming of harnessing this energy more efficiently, the challenge lies not only in engineering breakthroughs but also in funding, managing, and scaling these projects.
